Temu has hacked us! Martin and I have been deleting their posts.

Hopefully that the end of it but clearly there has been some sort of security breach, we are following up.

Menu order option changes

The website top level menu has changed.

To view the most recent posts you haven't viewed click on New Posts.

Calender has moved to under PBSBAC.

The change has been made so that it's faster to view unread posts.

Website down and now missing posts and photos

The website was down for a few hours last week. Today I noticed some posts and photos are missing.

I've told Mark about it and I'm awaiting his take on it.

Some of the missing photos/posts are photo of the month for December.

New PBSBAC website switch over

All being well the PBSBAC website will be switched to a new server on the evening of the 3rd December. The appearance of the website and forum will be substantially the same so no big learning curve.

There has been a great deal of work behind the scenes modifying the code by Mark and Tanya so that it will run on a modern specification commercial server. Since Oli took over maintenance of the website many years ago, it has been run on a private server kindly hosted by Oli's company and maintained by Oli, that's been a lot of work over many years. The server however is now old and cost money every month to run so a switch was required, meantime software system have moved on so a major update to the code was required, that's now completed.

We have been testing the new website, however, as is the way with software there may be some problems lurking which we have missed. Please report on this thread any possible issues you find once you see the notification that the website has switched, all being well that will be from the 4th Dec

There are some new features which will be detailed in a later post once it's live.

Having had a few words with inconsiderate people this year I've been tempted to fix up an action cam and record my days afloat just encase something happens! That way I have a chance to play back the footage and try and get some details!

Site upgrade and server move

Dear members,

Over the course of the next few days I will be upgrading the website to the latest version of the forum software and moving the site to a new server. Unfortunately there's no way to do this without causing some disruption but it's something that needs to be done for a few reasons:

1) We'll be moving to my own server - it's a dedicated machine which isn't shared with any other organisations. This way we have full control and can respond quickly to any problems without having to rely on a third party.

2) Our site currently runs version 3.4 of the forum software, the current version is 4.2.6 - we are at least 10 versions out of date so are long overdue an upgrade from both a security and features point of view.

3) Web hosting costs PBSBAC Â£160 per year or thereabouts. This is a cost which the club will no longer incur as I'll host the site on a server that I have anyway. This next invoice is due on 20th December so we want to switch before then.

The new site is currently live at http://pbsbac.vanderquest.co.uk/- the next step is to change the settings of http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/ so it points at the new site. This is where the disruption will be however those who cannot hold their excitement in are welcome to use the first link while the usual web address is out of action. This could take anywhere from 24 hours to 3 days. It's a slightly different layout that we can fully customise as we go along.

The main things that we will have problems with are:

1) Catch reporting. This is a custom created application that may not take too well to being transferred - we'll see!

2) I should be able to transfer across all the most recent posts/topics but some of the images posted between 27th Nov when I began this process and now will likely be lost. Older photos will be fine. Private messages between those dates will also likely be lost.

3) Some of the committee have had problems logging in and their passwords have needed resetting - if you have this issue please email me at oliver@maingay.co.uk and I'll sort it out ASAP for you.

We'd welcome any feedback once transferred over - if there's something you don't like or something you find which doesn't work please post a reply here so I can try and get it resolved.

I'm sure many of you will have seen Brian's email and realised we've had some major web issues over the past week. Very frustrating indeed and due to no fault of our own. Nor was it a hack or anything like that so no need to worry about any security or personal details having been compromised.

I'm pleased to say that it's finally back up and running having had to completely rebuild the site's database over the past few days. I will be moving the whole site to a new server ASAP and the forum software, IPB, will also be updated to the new version as they no longer support the version we run. Unfortunately this will inevitably lead to a bit of downtime and also more than likely a new forum layout (which no doubt they consider an 'improvement') so it may take a bit of getting used to. I will be able to give you plenty of notice of this happening rather than the unexpected outages we've just had!

Please do let me know if you spot any bugs over the next couple of weeks as there may still need to be some tweaks made to get it back exactly as it was. I'll be lying down in a darkened room with a large drink!

Front Page updates

Oli our new webmaster has been beavering away working on our front page http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/index.html

He has updated photos, removed old news, we now have our calendar of up and coming items in an automatic feed, latest catches and photo feed maintained by mods + other bits.

We have more plans to condense the amount of writing ie our club intro to just a few lines with a link to a fuller information page for those that are interested.

Could you guys take a look and give your opinions/suggestions

Someone gave me two reels (ABU`s) at the last meeting to service and I can not remember who it was ( eat to many scallops) but they are done and if they need them before next meeting give me a bell and you can pick them up.
