niggle Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 Went out this morning AM for a couple of hours on the ledge no bream bites but caught 2 species of wrasse and this little lad only had my phone so not very good the spines on its back were bright red on the upper part of them.I think it may be a bullhead?but would like to make sure before entering on my species list Thanks in advance Nige Quote
duncan Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 tough one from the detail available..... I favour GOBIIDAE, possibly Gobius paganellus, or COTTIDAE from what's visible of the dorsal arrangement. Body doesn't really fit CALLIONYMIDAE, and dorsal seems to rule out BLENNIIDAE Quote
niggle Posted April 22, 2010 Author Report Posted April 22, 2010 Just goggled Gobiidae and one image looks spot on Anybody else agree or disagree? Quote
Coddy Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 Hi Niggle Have a look here http://www.glaucus.org.uk/gobies1.htm and see if any are the same. Dave Quote
niggle Posted April 22, 2010 Author Report Posted April 22, 2010 Oh nuts Dave looks similar to black goby now I am confused Come somebody make the final call I wish I`d had my camera and got some decent photos as the top of those spines were bright red! Quote
duncan Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 the bright red spines are an interesting element but I can't see a match anywhere from Coddy's link one of the images of Gobius cobitis looks a very close match indeed Quote
niggle Posted April 22, 2010 Author Report Posted April 22, 2010 Right thats it a young Giant Goby Quote
