plaicemat
Anyone know where I can get a clean (ish) 40 gal (220ltr) steel barrel? I want to make another cold smoker and can't find one. Terry.
Wedger
I'll have a sniff around Terry. If you have a think where you would like it cut for the in's and out's I'll cut it with a plasma cutter. Trev
plaicemat
What a good man you are, Trev. I've had to dismantle my brick one and thought I'd replace with a portable one that won't be in the way of future projects. Terry.
plaicemat
Barrel sourced locally and welding completed. Should be ready for smoking some trout next week. Thanks for the offer Trev, a truck driving friend noticed one on an industrial estate and asked if he could take it. Unfortunately, no lid, so if you can find one with a lid, I would still like it and will convert this one to a hot smoker. Terry.
Wedger
Well done Terry. I'll keep an eye out. Is this the 'clamp on' type lid for the standard 45 gallon drum?
plaicemat
Exactly that, Trev. I believe they are usually used for food stuffs rather than oils, etc. Here's hoping for success. Terry.

plaicemat
Unfortunately, the current barrel is an ex oil drum with the top cut out of it and cleaned. I don't think a lid would fit it as it isn't made for it. Nice thought though, thanks for that. Terry.
