Rob Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 We had a cracker on JoJo today - we were up earlier than the tide! Doh! We were at teh slip approx 7:20 and there was not much water - a little wait and a wander and some photography and the water made an apperance! Charlie A got some good pics of the rocks that are marked with a red buoy in the way in to Mudeford - quite scary but good to meet them first hand in waders rather the being introduced to them via my prop!!!! No wonder AJ always says to me stick to the fishign boats on your way out! Well we gathered bait quickly and started fishing - no more than 30 seconds and BANG - big fish on a very very light spinning rod - I felt under gunned! First bass of the day 7lb exactly to me! Through out the day we caught fish of varying sizes - my biggest weighed release was 1lb 6oz (should have weighed the released fish earlier)! Charlie had a keeper of 3lb 6oz. After lunch we restocked with bait fish and and after another drift I suggested deeper water I had a call from Paul Jennings and off went a bait runner - I am sure it had smoke coming from it like in Jaws!!! Anyway - Charlie lifted in to a solid fish and it gave a cracking pull back - I had to let Paul go and get down to the business of bringing in lines and helping as the fish moved deepely round the boat. Up came a beautiful bar of silver - 8lb 6oz of angry and perfect Bass - and the best bit is we had the pleasure of admiring her for 15 mins whilst she recoverd and then swam away in to the depths! So we had a good 7+ fish and probably the same number of missed runs. We packed up as the tide started to change and push our drift back to front at 14:30. A great day with some nice fish. Question is - should I lend Charlie a rod again or keep them all to myself? I am sure Charlie will add some pics. Rob Result: 7lb 0oz - Rob Francis 1lb 60z - Rob Francis - RELEASED 3lb 6oz - Charlie Annear 8lb 6oz - Charlie Annear - RELEASED Quote
charlieannear Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 (edited) I was round at Rob's at 06.30 and once he'd made his sandwiches etc (Get round mine by 6.30 and don't be late he says ) we head off to Mudeford slip. We knew it was a low, low, low tide, but wow! (See other thread with pictures) Anyway, we eventually got out and picked up a few livebait, and then onto our first drift. Literally 30 seconds later Rob is in! A hard fight which woke us up, (as if we hadn't already been up since the crack of sparrows) and netted and boated. On the scales at 7lb (confirmed on dry land) and into the coolbox. We had 5 more during the day which went back to get a bit bigger, with my first decent sized one coming into the scales (also confirmed on dry land) s 3lb 6oz... and into the coolbox. A few others chased baits to the surface, and one or two got off, but the last one of the day went to me. Another good fight, going around the boat, stripping line and keeping the rod well-bent- eventually netted and boated. This was a good one! The scales gave 8lb 6oz! But this one wasn't confirmed on dry land as I decided to let him return to the depths. After a bit of nursing we let him go and he swam back down onto the green, to fight again another day. We had a few mackerel for tea too- so all-in-all a good day on JoJo! Edited September 12, 2010 by charlieannear Quote

Mike Fox Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Well done Charlie and Rob - some great fishing there !!!! Carol and I had a latish start, ignored 8 boats drifting in a row within Poole Harbour, and we popped outside to try a few marks we've had fish previously. Working on the theory that huge bass are relatively scavengers, I used frozen mackerel baits in the tidal "lee" of a few lumps of rock we've recorded. Three bass were boated, with the best going 2lb 5oz to me. Carol had the other two which were under the pound. Not great, but we hit target species I guess. We also had a couple of plump gurnard, as well as other bits and pieces. No new species for our tally however. Mike Quote

great white Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Update on our comp I really enjoyed my day onboard 50/50 with Stuart and Will. It was great to be on a differant boat for a change and although windy the weather was nice. We were to busy to worry about making tea etc so it was a flask and a sarnie box. After a chat with the JV crew as they waited for the tide we loaded the livebaits into the bait tank, put the kit onboard and sneaked out, stopping at Alfresco to unload a big buff and pick up my light spinning rod. When we arrived at Brownsea there were plenty of boats so we had a look and managed a few fish. As the tide eased we started moving about looking for the Bigger Fish, I must say that it does not take long on 50/50 At the right stage of the tide we stopped to refill the bait tank with a mixture of pout wrasse[all varieties] and pollack Then back on the hunt By 1600 we had managed about 20 fish, we kept 4 mostly deep hooked ones about 2-5lb and released plenty Will best fish 4lb 8oz best released 4lb 8oz Stuart Best fish 4lb best released 4lb Charlie best fish 5lb best released about 3lb on return to PBM it was a slick operation to get the boat out, so slick we had to wash her down ashore. After discussions and comparisons of prices last week I must say Richard and his lads had this sorted at PBM, and that should also be part of the comparison. Thanks Will and Stuart for a great day, it reminded me of great trips on my smaller boats and showed that owning a bigger boat does not tick all the boxes. I hope that others, on other boats on other marks had a good day as well Well done Rob and Charlie some nice fish from the ledge and well done on putting the big one back. You are determined to keep as many of those lures as you can. Charlie Quote

great white Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Well done Charlie C a 5lb fish is a good one and not bad for a conger basher Sneaked out this morning to check things out, not a fish in sight, on Thursday they were all over the place PJ Hi Paul Thanks mate I had a great time, while not my biggest bass of the year, on my 10-30gram spinning rod and small fixed spool it went well. I usually use that rod for mullet fishing and may yet have another go. Not sure that I will be hanging up the conger gear though Charlie Quote
Gas Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 I would like to thank Adam for a good day out I know Adam was very disappointed with our tally as was all, but it was great to be out and in good company it was also great to learn how to fish the bridge and how to float fish a new experience for me and one I am sure Jackie will enjoy. the 5lb Bass will make supper for the family so no complaints from me. Ps Adam promised me another trip so a great day for me. Quote
