Rob Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 I heard the news on the BBC just now. Hope they get the crew off safely. Though it was west of the scilly isles, so I guess the chapmans won't get a new conger hotspot! Trying to find the name of it to follow on ais live. Quote
Mike Fox Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 See here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-11633974 Hope they get them all off safely, but they're out of helicopter range. Lifeboats needed and shipping will have to be diverted to assist. Very scary stuff. Over 100 on board - so imagine the fish processing going on, and the quantity of fish needed to make this viable - probably 10s of thousands of tons per trip - no wonder the mackerel are diminishing if this is the size of factory ships out in the Western Approaches. great white Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 Nothing more scary than a bad fire on a ship at sea That is why the navy train all their crews so well and have fire excercises every day. I see that most of the crew are off just the firefighting teams left. I hope that teh weather is being kind and all get off OK Thoughts on another, [pre baited] wreck will come once we know the crew are OK Charlie Quote
pirky Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 Been there twice in my short 3 years aboard Merchant Navy cruise liners. Both times on the "old" ORIANA ....once in the Channel and once in the South Pacific..... Both scary ... even as trained crew, the drill being ingrained and automatic... still not an experience I would wish on any one !! Hope there is a happy ending.. Dave Quote
Paul J Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 I hope the crew survive but the ship is lost PJ Quote
