Fugazi
With the In laws here for a month I thought I should take Father in Law out for a days Cod fishing on Fugazi. We arrived at the slip at a very civilised 0830 am to find Paul D and Neo just getting ready to launch, so we soon got ready and followed Paul down river and out towards the end of the Ledge. Paul went off to the west and to his secret Cod mark and we carried on to where I had two Cod about a month ago. As it was the same mark Colin had a nice one last week I hoped there would still be a few about. It was a bit lumpy out there with wind over tide causing a few white tops but that did'nt stop us catching fish. Armed with some frozen Mackerel and light tackle we targeted the Channel Whiting to start with while the tide was a bit strong and managed to catch from the off. Between John and I we managed to bag 9 of which 4 were keepers but the Cod rods stayed biteless for quite a while until about an hour before slack. We then started to get a few enquiries on the big baits and on winding up to check my bait the top rod ring fell apart as the ceramic liner seperated from the metal fitting. I re-baited and put the rod out with the line re-thread out through the next ring down from the rod tip and would you believe it hooked into something a bit bigger. When it came to the net it was a nice to see Mr Cod again weighing in at 11.5lb, Paul's deadly Ilex squid stikes again. Unfortunately, despite a few enquiries we didn't manage to hook up with any more Cod but as the tide dropped so did the wind and it turned into a beautiful sunny day to enjoy the fishing. Paul D
Nice one Gordon. I actually fished a mark I haven't tried before ( as opposed to my "secret" mark which is a bit further to the west. This other mark produced the one cod but when PJ turned up it went all quiet ( I was slack water though ). PJ did kindly throw us over a frozen mackeral which did the business as whiting bait. Lovely day to be out on the water and please you landed another cod. Big improvement on previous years. Thinking about it, I struggled to catch cod before last year. ( 3 in total over 4 or 5 years up to then ). Last year had a fair few and this year have had 3 from 3 trips
