I am begining to pull my hair out on this one and thought I would ask if anyone has any suggestions.

I have a Yamaha C40 twin cylinder 2 stroke outboard attached to the back of the boat, thought I would check to se if it was charging the battery and it wasn't!

So bought a replacement rectifier and fitted it still nothing! (bum)

Checked the output from the lighting coil and I got a voltage (AC of course) off each lead but not very high at about 6 - 8 volts.

Both rectifiers seem to test ok so can anyone suggest any other ideas? blink.gif

Dave - my Yamaha lighting coil outputs 42 VDC @ 1500 rpm and 127 VDC @ 3500 rpm, note it is DC - though it is newer that the unit you have.

Get a manual if you can as that is where I got the above data from. It also advises the expected resistance parameters of the coil.

Without manual or the correct data you are goign to strugle!

I will check my Yamaha Manual CD and see if a C40 is in there!

Dave I only have data back to 2000. The name C40 is referenced in a manual, however it is 3 cylinder.

File attached - advise when you have taken a copy so I can remove it from this post!
