duncan Posted July 13, 2011 Report Posted July 13, 2011 they must have read my 'solution'.... land everything, count it against the next years once you have caught this years once you have landed 75% of the following years quota for anything you stop fishing simples the drivers to target both size and species would suddenly become extremely real rather than a convenience, as currently. however, in practice discards stay in the food chain and aren't inherently the issue. This is just another political ploy to delay any resolution of the real issue - over fishing itself and destructive inshore/nursery techniques. Quote
petesnr Posted July 13, 2011 Report Posted July 13, 2011 I cant agree with Duncan on this. Discards remaining in the food chain means nothing apart from well fed crabs. Bottom line is that dead fish dont grow or reproduce so any plan to make these dead fish part of quota and so limit future fishing is good. Petesnr Quote
great white Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Did anyone see Hugh's Fish Fight on TV last night? It looks like 730,000 peoples combined voices are starting to be heard. While not an outright ban on discards , at least it looks like progress what do you think? Charlie Quote
