After the bad weather we've had there is very little water on the seaward end/south of the run by the last bouy.

I went out this morning an hour and a half before low and bottomed out with my leg up!!!

Wishin only draws 0.5m and we were stuck on it and had to rely on the waves to ease us off!!

When we went out tide was approx 0.9m. When we came in it was approx 1.4m and only had 2ft clearance on approach at first bouy and sometimes less!!!!!!

Hopefully they will move them to where there is a channel,if one exists.

Maybe Alun will be able to update us to a better exit if it exists

PLEASE,PLEASE take care when trip planning until updated

It surprises me how many BIG boats (motor cruisers, gin palaces and yachts) are moored in christchurch!

I am sure most of them have to leave and return on a high tide!

For the last couple of times Nige, 1m seems enough to creep over the bar. But high pressure and / or swell can easily muck that up!

Hope you had a good trip,

Thanks Nigel,

The shallow bank near the last bouy does seem to have shifted. i reckon we will have a completley new route in and out pretty soon, but for how long who knows, the weather wiill dictate it.

We may need AJ to point the way for now till the bouys are moved

Hi all,

We also bottomed out 2 weeks ago on the last weather window 1 hour before a 0.9 tide . it is always a gamble after a storm but keep well left of bouys on way out your normally ok until the last bouy which can easily catch you out.I might be wrong but i did not think they moved the bouys in the winter they were there only as a guide.

I'll have a look as soon as weather allows us to get out..... not this coming week.

I may squeeze a few hours in the morning tomorrow ... but will be staying well inside the harbour.

Update........

Out today.........and the 'Channel' is hard to determine.

Take care as soon as you pass the Quay....... the breaking surf shows you the much more extensive Bar that runs almost down to Avon Beach parallel to the shore.

The big difference is that there is almost no channel inside ; it is very flat !! and shallow.

With big tides coming next week with that better weather , allow plenty of time either side of LW

I came in this afternoon about 3.45. LW was about 2 [ and not a big tide] . I only had 0.5m for a long stretch and could trickle in with prop trimmed well up; You can't do this if tide is falling.
