Standalone or combo units for fish/ chartplotters ?

Can anybody please advise on which way to go, and any preference on make and

size of screen , looking at Garmin or Lowrance.

Thanks, MICK

Its a bit of personal choice really

I use the 10.4" lowrance combo unit. Which has since been replaced by the HD unit.

Easy to use as I had lowrance before and I like the extra features a combo unit gives like recordable sonar info.

I also like the navionics gold chartography that is uses.

I have always had seperate units before and thought it would only be time before I found budget to add a seperate fish finder, but after 4 years and a lot of fishing I still have not had to.

One downside is it is not easy to turn the transducer off when drift fishing in shallower water.

Mick I like the lowrance but I've also heard great things of garmin

Before it got pinched I had a 10hds combo, but to save some money you could have two 5hds

Charlie & Nige,

Thanks for the input guys, both of you said about the lowrance hds10, this is the one I

was thinking about myself .

At present I have 2 x 5 inch lowrance ( globalmap 3500c & x 102c ) which are now obsolete, so may go for bigger screen so I can see it easier !!!!.

Will try so see unit working somewhere,

Cheers again,
