Paul D
Fished the gully near the end of Christchurch Ledge today. Late start - launched from Wick at 9:00 AM and had to leave around 2:00 AM due to the big tides. Slight ripple on the water, slight breeze, glorious sunshine - lovely weather for fishing. Fishing was hectic - dogfish city to start with but then as the tide started to slacken we were into Whiting after Whiting - up to 2 1/2 lbs. My friend I took ( for whom it was his first ever boat trip ) did really well and had doggied, whiting, small tope and finished off with a 3lb bass. Not bad for around 4 hours fishing. There was a small flotilla out there, cod hunting. Heard of one caught but also heard they were not catching any channel whiting, which was puzzling given the amount we were catching. Back into the run around 2:30 and I was glad I didnt leave it any longer as the water over the bar was getting extremely shallow.
Bob F
Nice one, Paul. It seems that you have to be right on the exact spot for whiting at the moment. When I was out last week I was only catching them by dropping the bait into the same spot. 15 yds either side and you got nothing!!??!!
