Paul D Posted May 19, 2013 Report Posted May 19, 2013 Had an interesting conversation regarding the practice of returning all the female bream and keeping only the male fish. The male fish make a nest to attract the female fish to lay eggs. Once fertilised the males then guard the nest. Therefore, if we take all the males and only leave female fish, what will happen to the unguarded nest ? Furthermore to complicate matters a bream can turn from male to female evidently ? What is thevreasoning for returning all the females, it doesn't seem to be based upon anything scientific ? Martin.C and Stuie 2 Quote
Wedger Posted May 20, 2013 Report Posted May 20, 2013 The answer is........... Take only in moderation. In freshwater we have a closed season for breeding fish. Seems that we take the oportunity to take fish from the sea as they gather to breed. Stuie, Paul J and Paul D 3 Quote
