charlieannear Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 Even less than had been suggested though: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-25032255 Quote
Steve S Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 Seems like just 'Poole Rocks' in our area, next nearest is Chesil Beach and Stennis Ledges Quote
great white Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 What happened to the one south of Portland? And does anyone know what this means we can or can not do in the area around Poole rocks.? Quote
Stuie Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 There is a zone called South Dorset - could this be what you are referring to Charlie. I understand restrictions in MCZ's are for dredging and bottom trawling only. Quote
Matt Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 Looking at the list most are not likely to be dredged or trawled anyway! The only one that stands out is the skerries bank. Quote
great white Posted November 22, 2013 Report Posted November 22, 2013 Looks like it has had to be completly watered down to get it past the power of the commercial sector. Bit like the Bass MLS increase, all seemed well, but someone in power needed the balls to push it through Sad Well much more than that, its F****ing annoying. Kingfisher 126 1 Quote
Steve S Posted November 22, 2013 Report Posted November 22, 2013 I agree with you Charlie, I think all we can hope for is this 'momentum' if you can call it that continues and more MCZs are announced in the future. Continuing to push for that will certainly help, since MPs appear to be motivated by anything that they think will help get re-elected. Quote
Paul J Posted November 22, 2013 Report Posted November 22, 2013 Link to the facts sheets here - we will need to keep an eye on the finalized management proposals for Poole rocks though it does to look on the surface like restrictions are as Stuie states http://publications.naturalengland.org.uk/category/1721481 http://publications.naturalengland.org.uk/publication/5580836816551936?category=1721481 Quote
Kingfisher 126 Posted November 22, 2013 Report Posted November 22, 2013 What you have to remember Charlie is how many people in goverment have fishing intrests against how many are landlords and land owners? If it meant farms etc would suffer there would be a queue in goverment to shout for the action required! As always never quite fair for all. Its a start though. gaffa 1 Quote
