Some very depressing local views :(

Never actually been to Alderney so can't comment on their validity

All I know is that the Alderney Flight from Southampton runs the weirdest and size for size noisiest plane in the world (well almost)

Hope that whatever the outcome the local community benefit overall

I've had a good look at this, as a sheltered marina would be useful for cross channel trips for Frisky. I can see why the location has been picked under Fort Albert, with shelter from the NE (the current danger sector), and the massive breakwater providing protection from the West.

I think swell will still get in, and a NE blow will see every boat on the Alderney buoys and anchorages scurrying in for shelter...and there's not going to be that much room.

An interesting proposition, that needs selling better to the locals.

French villages and towns that have installed marinas in the last 20-30 years have seen massive spin-off benefits with ongoing support and maintenance staff, local tradesmen, shops, pubs, restaurants etc all getting extra trade. I think it WILL help the island economy, and the concept is good.

Personally, I'd prefer to see a larger development, with space to spare even in mid-summer.

Its a small Island so I expect that they have to balance the needs of many against what would just suit just the visitors

I have been visiting the Island for 26 years and the main problem may be the laid back nature of the islanders. They could do better with the facilities that are already there but seem content not too. Try getting something to eat in a pub after 2000. I hear thet the Braye chippy has shut,

I believe that they have tried to close the doors against visiting angling boats, without taking into account the revenue to the Island from these regular visitors.

Marks shop on the quay has gone, and we used to spend a fortune there LOL

Apart from the obvious berthing benifits and bathing facilities perhaps there would be a deeper water fuel and water facility. Although a small Marina like this may well fill up quickly it should have fringe benifits

One to keep an eye on

I very much agree with your comments Charlie, a lot more could be made of what they have already without huge cost.

An all tide marine would surly be a good thing for the island bringing extra income, it my belief that any place without new developments is basically dying and judging from the school attendance drops quoted that would apply to Alderney sad to say.

Reading comments from the locals many do not want any change and minimise the benefits but fail to see what a lack of change brings, stasis, and the exiting of the young, decay.
