Swainiac
Mon 4th April Had the great fortune to be asked to fish a Plaice comp down in Weymouth...cheers Billy, and did myself proud by helping my boat tally along to 27....nine anglers on board, so I did my bit!! All small plaice, caught on single hook size 2 with red beads, then fluero's then red then flueros, no spoon for firts fish, then a quick change, and a spoon incorporated to find two more fish. All returned. Charter vessel....nothing in the book for me!! Tues 5th April Today was my day out with the constabulary boys, left Lymo on board Due South early, and steamed off the island some 34 miles, out to a mark known as the legs. Drofted over one smallish wreck, lost a small pollack first drift, hooked up on second drift, and heres me thinking I'm in for a stormer!! Very very slow fishing, not the usual savage takes the pollack are reknowned for, despite an abundance of fish marking above the wreck. Three fish on this wreck for me, best going just under nine. Interesting to note fish coughing up sprats.......and with wind against tide, the lures dont approach the shoal at the right angle, so I guess they ignore em......who knows?? Second wreck, slow drifts again, four more pollack for me, a single pout, all pollack in the three to four pound range, good initial dives....fairly lacklustre afterwards!! The boat had ten fish.......four on board, one angler blanked. Interstingly, all mine fell to Storm Sandeels, on seven foot flowing traces, 12oz of lead on the boom, the others were using red gills, which took one or two, I gave out a few sandeels....which caught!! Get some in for the Alderney trip lads!! Rich
