What feels like a weekend "Fishathon" has one day to go if the crew manage to make it tomorrow. Canicular weather, a surfeit of fish and esteemed company. What more could one ask?

We decided to fish the Bass Comp. On Saturday Morning and a quick 30 knot trip across the Bay on a flat sea, found us on our chosen mark around 9.30 am. Seven sizeable fish were landed on both lure and livebait in the next hour or two with smaller and lost fish taking us into double figures. We then returned to Poole and played about in various places hoping for Plaice and an elusive Trigger. Fish were plentiful, but most of the Plaice caught were on the small side, no Triggers but plenty of jumbo Mackeral.

The Emergency Services had a real day of it around Poole dealing professionally with multiple situations simultaneously. In the afternoon, an injured climber at Dancing Ledge, two back to back medi vacs by helicopter, an injured elderly gentleman on True Blue which caused her urgent return to Poole. Then there was a sunken speedboat with four passengers off Sandbanks (pics to follow). This was interspersed with something like 14 Pan Pans. We lost count of the numerous calls to the now defunct Portland Coastguard and the incessant demands for radio checks. Our admiration goes out to them.

Sunday saw us trying for a mixture of fish. Coddy and I did well, but Golden B__ll__ks, namely DL excelled himself. Nearly 20 different species on his own including eight Plaice, Undulate Rays to 14 pounds, Conger and the elusive Trigger Fish.

Here is the Lifeboat story of that speed boat:-

Lifeboat Launched To Sinking Speedboat

On a blistering bank holiday afternoon Poole Lifeboat was tasked by Solent Coastguard at 15.10 (Saturday August 26) to a report of a 20ft speed boat reported to be sinking off Sandbanks.

The vessel with 4 people on-board had got into difficulty when the lifeboat arrived on scene at 15:20.

There was debris in the water and the casualties had safely made their way ashore. Two lifeboat crew went ashore to check that the occupants were all okay and none the worse for their escapade whilst the other lifeboat crew and RNLI Lifeguards recovered some of the debris.

The lifeboat crew, that were ashore, spoke with the owners as there was an option to re float the vessel or pull it clear onto the beach but the vessel was now in the hands of the casualties insurance company so was left in situ awaiting further instruction from the insurance company.

As everyone was okay the lifeboat returned back to station, after refuelling it was ready for service by 17:00 but then a call came through from the Coastguard to re-task the crew to recover the vessel.

The Coastguard re tasked the lifeboat to recover the stricken vessel as it was a hazard to navigation. The casualties’ insurance company could not contract a salvage team to move it until after the bank holiday weekend.

When the lifeboat arrived back on scene, with the assistance of Poole mobile Coastguard unit, they dragged it up the beach and then re-floated the vessel.

The crew then attached a tow line and brought it back to Baiter Slipway where they passed it back to the casualties who were standing by.

The crew then returned to station and were ready for service by 20:45
