Manic Moore
I have been watching the good weather and light tides all week desperately looking for reason to get off work and finaly, Saturday was looking OK. As Sunday looked off, the FPO was please that it was Saturday and a phone call to my mate in Cornwall, scrounged some bait off Adam. 8.00am at Kimeridge, a gentle NW saw us heading out for a wreck to see if we could latch onto a few pollock and conger. There was a little bit of tide still running and the first drift saw my mate with a 4lb pollock on board that went back to grow bigger. 10 minutes later 2 dive boats with about 20 odd divers were over the side and in the way. Half hearted appology from on eof the skippers but they were gone in about 45 minutes so we set about trying to anchor up. Well it took about 5 or 6 goes, including anchoring the wreck, (the alderny ring and cable ties eventually pulling it free) The first few goes saw plenty of decent sized pout and doggies over the side, but on the last anchor and my perseverence with the cuttle fish saw a 25lb conger in the boat. During the next hour I landed another 4 between 12 and 20lb. All put up a tremendous scrap and I was happy as Larry. I felt sorry for my mate as he lost all 3 of the conger he latched onto. Lots of lessons on the day. Make sure you have a saved track or a way point to go back to a new launch point. We made a big L shape on the way back. Don't put too many cable ties on the trip, experiment as you will be supprised just how well they hang on. You only need enough to keep you anchored. Experiment on the distance you have to go past the fishing spot so that when you anchor your boat ends up over the boat. This took me a few goes. I also got well mixed up with the plotter / tide orientation that didn't help. Can we make that the next training session? Got back home happy and knackered at 7.30pm. Cleaned all the boat and fishing tackle, picked up the worms for Sunday and preped my plaice gear, sandwich and bed foe 10. 5am breakfast, round Adam's for 5.45 and out on the shambles with Adam letting me catch all the plaice. What a weekend. Bed by 9.00pm Come on you bream ( and conger!!) Hope you didn't get bored with the ramblings All the best (thanks Adam) The conger catcher Moore
Coddy
Well done Godon I envy you managing to anchor on the spot you want, it is one of things I have yet to manage. Mangaged to catch a few as well well done for both days Coddy
Paul D
Nice one Gordon. Useful tips on the cable ties. I must admit I only put two on and they seem to hold fine. I did put three on at one time and had right fun getting the anchor to trip. Now I need some quiet weather and will get a trip out form Kimmeridge for some anchoring practice of my own. Bob F
Nice report, Gordon. And well done with the anchoring and catch. It's not easy. Regarding the confusion with tide and position of the wreck, you might want to try setting the GPS Map setup to "North Up" rather than "Track Up". I find this easier when trying to position myself over a wreck or other mark. I drift over the wreck a few times with the track view showing on the GPS, and this will draw your drift lines (with North up). Then it's a simple cas of using the compass to point the boat back up the drift line and position the boat an appropriate distance from the wreck before dropping anchor. See, easy!!! cheers BF

They think they own the bloomin seas!!! Rich
Sam
rich they also ruin the fishing. what i found quite funny was when a rib turned up wanted to go down next to us and we were the ones chucking around 6/o hooks. sam
