Stuie
Thursday 21st February 2019 Welcome to your February Sea Newsletter We're Recruiting! The Angling Trust is recruiting a part-time Marine Regions Co-Ordinator to support and develop a network of regional marine organisations of the Angling Trust. We are looking for a passionate individual with a broad knowledge and understanding of sea angling in England. Find out how to apply here Fisheries Bill Update Last month the Angling Trust and Bluefin Tuna UK met with Fisheries Minister George Eustice and North Cornwall MP Scott Mann to discuss the new UK Fisheries Bill’s planned Grants and Funding Scheme. This will support recreational sea angling as well as our ongoing campaign for a new post-Brexit catch and release bluefin tuna fishery. Recreational Fishing Exempt From Discard Ban Recreational fishing has been made exempt from the EU Landings Obligation (discard ban) after an EU management plan for Western Waters was agreed by the European Parliament. This is a big success for the Angling Trust and European Angers Alliance who have been quietly lobbying for this for several years after it became apparent the ban on throwing dead fish back to sea, meant for commercial fishing, technically applied to recreational fishing too. Find out more information here Sea Angler Attitudes Survey The Sea Angler Attitudes research is an opportunity to inform the government about sea anglers’ views on its current and future management and development. This comes at an exciting time for sea angling as the government considers new policy decisions such as the new UK Fisheries Bill (see above). Be quick, it closes at midnight on Sunday!
