More Support For Sea Angling Nevin Hunter has been appointed as the Angling Trust’s Marine Regions Coordinator. In this new part-time role, Nevin will be working with clubs and the Trust’s existing Marine Regions to increase the Angling Trust’s reach into the sea angling community and support the Angling Trust’s Regions. Nevin will be assisted by Brian Pask who has taken on a lead voluntary role supporting sea angling participation, coaching and development. Click here to find out more Fisheries Bill Update The Angling Trust met with the new Fisheries Minister Robert Goodwill earlier this month and received assurances that the government remains committed to including specific reference to recreational fishing in the new UK Fisheries Bill. The Angling Trust has been working with Defra to provide evidence supporting the Bill’s intention to allow recreational fishing to qualify for grants and funding. Cornwall IFCA: Bass Not Urgent Cornwall Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority, which Fish Legal has threatened with legal action for deciding against an emergency byelaw to protect juvenile bass from commercial fishing nets, says it rejected the proposal because it did not believe the bass stock crisis was 'urgent'. It also says that it “had not been made directly aware of the landings of undersize bass due to small nets with a small mesh size”. Full story Specimen Award Winner Congratulations to Gareth Griffiths of Teignmouth SAA who caught a blonde ray of 18lb 9oz from the shore at Barry, South Wales, giving him a percentage of 185.63% and winning March’s Specimen Award. It was a dead heat for the juniors this month with Joshua Johnson and Harvey Nicholson, both of Rodbenders SAC, catching lesser spotted dogfish of 2lb 2oz from the shore, giving them a percentage of 121.43%.
