jack
Out to sea by 09.45. Cracking weather, already hot.Sea state ,only slightly ruffled. Not much tide running, toddled down to the alledged Ray mark.Anchored up and sat with wonderful fresh makerel baits for 1 ,1/2 hrs waiting for some tide movement and quietly cooking. Gave up and moved west to an alledged Tope area where there was some tide. plenty ground baiting and again fresh makeral baits. Tide fell away to nothing after an hour or so, so moved out to an alledged conger mark.fried quietly in the tropical sunshine for 2hrs or so .feathered at anchor as schoal after shoal passed beneath the boat.caught what we could eat and waited for the bites, changing baits every 15mins or so...Returned the 8 ml.in time for the 16.30 bridge.Fantastic day out, burned to a crisp ! Our catch report is.....confidential due to our policy of absolute conservation and secrecy..You think we Blanked again ?. Of course not,the Pout I caught was a most attractive chappie !.What a strange day for tides, one hour of good strong flow,in the whole 7 hr period...We must get marks for effort.jack
duncan
5.8 or could do better.......... don't understand the tide bit as there was a significant tide Sunday - still at least you enjoyed the weather! poor catches on a cold December slop just don't bear thinking about. john c
Jack I think I saw you out there on Sunday. Where you anchored close in to Swanage bay early on. We went to our known Tope mark at around noon but inexperience with my new anchor meant that by the time it had hit the bottom in the strong tide we were getting to be east of the lighthouse. Acouple of doggies and a 10lb Tope to Dom. Interestingly, as the Tope came to the boat we saw another larger one following about a foot behind. When we got the net out, he dissapeared sharpish. As slack approached we decided to run west were we should have been. To avoid snagging as the tide wallowed we bounced the leads on the bottom. I had a take which feels quite strange when you are holding on to the rod. He got off. Dom using the same technique hooked one and landed it. Then another late on. So not altogether a blank. At least someone on my boat caught a fish Whats your secret with the Pout?? Don't give up John C

jack
[ 1 ] Thanks for the compliment Bob. perhaps I should stick to reporting and leave the fish catching to others.!!. [ 2 ].John, we spent some time earlier in the day about 800yds off the corner of Ballard down,at the Swanage bay end,if the boat you saw was idly swinging around in the slight breeze, with no tide[accompanied by curses from "snagged in" fisherfolk] That was us. Congrats. on Dom's Tope. even to see one swim off would be a nice experience !..jack
john c
AHA!!!!! it was you. Luckily the light wind must have allowed the curses to drift past us unoticed. We drifted quite close to you a couple of times but the tide was not all that strong. When we were close in near to you there were no Mackeral, but a swift move further out saw a little more tide and plenty of Makeral. I'm trying to get out on Thursday once I have checked the tides and after all the antics that we have reported with the Tope doing odd things I think we now need to see one taill walking at least. Keep on with the splendid reports. We thought it was only us that didn't catch although we couldn't bring ourselves to write about it as cheerfully. great white
Nice day but the tides were odd we went to fish a bank for the last 90 min of the flood to find a dead slack tide short move but no tide so fishing was very slow just mackerel and wrasse to 1lb 8oz moved right inshore to get away from all the fast powerboats zooming around, met up with prodigy for tea and bacon sarnies and let Daniel have a swim. not fishing really but a nice day Charlie
