Paul J
Planned an early start (7am) to go to the island from Christchurch. Wind was blowing hard so this was delayed and we set off about 9:30. There was quite a chop out so we went to the ledge instead where it was just about fishable. We took several drifts with live joeys along the coast guard Hut in about 40ft but no bites. We did however see a Sunfish which came right up to the boat, took me by suprise! all i saw was a fin sticking up i thought it was a shark for a second. What a strange but beautiful creature. It is considered sacred in hawaii and you will be cursed if you kill it- be warned! Met up with Neo about an hour later and as the tide was slowing up we headed out to xrayish ground and put the hook in. Using live joeys at anchor in a fairly slackish tide ( 6oz weight) i caught 8 bass in an hour best going 6.8lbs, 5.2lbs, a couple of 4.5lbers and some 3's Best session i've had in ages Caught a couple more small ones and ended with 10 for the day Everyone else had a slow day, Les had a couple and neo didn't do that well so it was definatley my day- and about time too Paul J
Swainiac
Cracking day Paul, I too enjoyed a little bass sport on board Manatee, with Les, yesterday, drifting the Bridge area. Mine took pocket sized scad, a superb bait. Unfortunately the stingray trip later on didnt actually turn into a stinger trip, although I did sqeak out a crafty smoothie just before we headed home! Wedger
Great to here you had a cracking day Paul. The sunfish is turning up in a few places miles apart! Very inquisitive fish. They like looking at boats............ is it a mating ritual? Gnasher
result Paul. I was out testing the new boat today. Went out from wick about mid day but I didnt see anyone. I saw two fish about a mile off the quey jump about 4 feet clear of the water. Not big fish, probabbly a pound or so. would these of been maccy? Ive never seen them jump like that before. Strange but when i was comming back through the harbour i saw a few fish do similer. Im guessing these were sea trout. Would these of been sea trout jumping clear out to sea? Wedger
Could be Dan................, but if I was a macky near the surface and had a Bass on my ass I'd jump clear of the water too

Wedger
The other possibility of course is that it could just be the level of sea lice on the fish at the moment. Most of the bass I pulled last week had a fare few on. Ichy
