duncan
reading through the thread a couple of things that might fit the small, light and potentially usefull - black bin bags - not for the fish ( ) but if someone gets their clothes really wet (like falling in!) a quick couple of cuts and they can put the bag over their clothes creating a very efficient heat barrier preventing heat loss for a long time. Once warm, and if you do have a change of warm clothing(!) change later. gaffer/duck tape and big cable ties - amazing what can be bodged up with these! great white
I thought that this would develope into an interesting read. Lots of good ideas / thoughts Duncan I agree that a few items can get you out of all sorts of problems, most of the Navy ships I served on made good use of black gaffer tape in all sorts of areas. Coddy the tool kit that comes with a new engine is very cheap and cheerfull but includes all the tools to sort out about 75% of OBM problems, and is a very small and neat roll. some even stow under the cowling pliers, screwdriver that can be cross head or flat head, a few combination spanners, a spare pull start rope and a plug spanner. spare plugs keep them oiled up and they will get you home. Kim I carry a couple of spare hoses in with the tools and would use bits from non essential items like the bait tank if I needed a get me home type repair. You would be surprised how efficient a bit of plastic bag wrapped around the split hose and several turns of gaffer tape are. obviously only good on low pressure hoses, or split filters etc. Nice thread Charlie
Paul D
Kam, A folding "speedboat" anchor will hold my boat on the shambles with a 5 knot tide running ( possibly having dragged to some obstruction first though, but it was easy enough to retrieve ! ). I use mine to slow my drift when plaice fishing and as a backup anchor in case of loss of the main one.

Nice thread Charlie Hi Charlie I have the original emergency starter rope under the cowl but I don't recall seeing any tools. I will give it another look next time I am up at the boat. I will also go to Wimborne market as I think they sell tool rolls there. In view of the responses I think I might fit the outboard braket this week-end Might even give the outboard a test! I like drilling holes in boats Coddy
