Guest Guest_kaptin kod_Fisherman
Picked me new engine up on Saturday from Bill Higham Marine in Manchester, part exed my Mercury 60hp, on checking the engine they found that she had been only firing on 2 cylinders so I was not running at full power, so I traded her in anyway. Having the new engine fitted Thursday and look forward to some trouble free sessions now that the Cod are starting to show. Thanks for advice given in earlier post. Newboy
Congrat on your new engine, wishing you all the success with it in the coming season
duncan
ah well you can now expect not only 1 1/2x the performance but 2/3 the fuel consumption from the new unit now! all the best with the cod - I'm seriously thinking about fishing tight inshore for the smaller ones this year rather than bobbing around hoping for one further out. last season didn't see a whole lot on the boat for the effort expended! kaptin kod
Well had the engine fitted and took her out friday night, lovely smooth run, quiet as a mouse with no nasty vibrations, steering improved to. Only one thing that slighty concerned about was trouble starting after she was left for a while, could this be due to the 100:1 fuel mix for the first tank ?. Ps had a cracking session on the Bristol Channel, 20+ congar, 8 Rays, 10lb Cod, 9.5lb Bull Huss.
Sam
isnt it ment to be 50:1 sam
kaptin kod
For running in it needs to be 100:1 for first tank, supposed to fully lubricate the engine?.
Afishionado
For running in it needs to be 100:1 for first tank, supposed to fully lubricate the engine?. Justa thought isn't the engine an oil injection engine ? ie you put oil in one tank and neat petrol in the main tank. If so should you be usning pre mix at all? Newboy
Some make do have their 2 stroke injected on 100:1 on their first tank. So in theory the engine will use 100:1 from the tank and then it will inject a quantity of oil equals to 100:1 into the fuel mixture (or before mixture) making it 50:1. Vibration shouldn't be too bad as it's a 3 cylinders model (more cylinders the smoother it it) as regard to noise, no disrespect, but anything is gonna be a lot quieter than your old 2 stroke. The only thing that worries me is the problem you had starting. Again no disrepect, did you prime the engine probably before you attempt to start it? If you have, it can be a number of things, old battery? It's a newer model maybe it needs more juices from the battery on starting? Only time will tell, if you have this problem agin, get back to Bill Higham and have them sort it out.
