Newboy
Not sure if it's the correct way, I remove the last pair of leg, put large hook thru one hole and out of the other.
Swainiac
Matt...you get two types of peeler.......generally, if you catch ure own, and find two crabs one piggy backing the other, the one underneath will be either a peeler or a popper. To prepare, simply take the crab and determine which type it is, either a peeler...soft bodied, or a popper, a hardback with the rear of the shell split from the body, in readiness to climb out of its old shell. A peeler, as Kam rightly says, simply take a crab and remover a leg and hook, but best to add bait elastic, or I personally hook through the body, slide up the hook, and wrap up in elastic, leaving legs at each end of the hook. This leaves a juicey bait. A popper....take off the hard outer shell, to expose the soft body underneath, and hook as above. Hardbacks can be used very successfully at this time of year for big Wrasse, again, remove a back leg, hook up into the socket, push hook either out of the back, or out of the underside, with hardbacks, depending on size and shell toughness, its still advisable to use a good length of bait elastic. An added attraction with hardbacks, is to slightly crush the shell, letting the juices oooze through. Tight Lines....Rich
