kaptin kod
I have just purchased an S15 DSC which I am trying to link to a Garmin GPS 128. I have connected the radio NMEA out from the GPS to the +ve on the VHF and the NMEA -ve to the GPS -ve as per the instructions. The GPS has the correct sentences but still wont show the GPS locations on the VHF. Anybody have one of these sets that they have fitted and is working ok?.. Bob F
KK The NMEA OUT (pin 3 blue) from the GPS should be connected to the NMEA IN on the VHF. I'm not sure how this is marked on the S15, but could be something like RX+ (for receive +ve). The Ground (pin 2 Black) from the GPS should be connected to the -ve or RX- on the S15. The on the Garmin GPS do the following: 1 - select the COMM tab 2 - select PORT 1 3 - Set the SERIAL DATA FORMAT to NMEA IN/NMEA OUT (or anything that says NMEA OUT) Data rate should be 4800 on both units. On the S15 you need to make sure it is set for NMEA IN. cheers BF
Gazza
KK How long are you waiting for the numbers to come up? My one seem`s to tack a while to get going. I thought i had the same problem, so phoned Silva (Scotland if i remember). They were very helpful explaining what to do. Be patient if you do phone them as the accent was very broad and hard to explain!!!!!! Best wishes Gazza
kaptin kod
thanks for info lads, just rung Silva support, apparently there is an extra piece of cable not shown in the manual for boosting the NMEA signal from the GPS. Nice to know you can rely on a manual eh.
