Moorings ?

Hi all - I'm relatively new to the area and am weeks away from the CFO freeing up some funds for me to get waterborne. Can anyone please advise on moorings in the area that don't necessarily cost an arm and both legs (as she won't approve this) ? I live Southbourne way, so either Christchurch or (preferably) Poole and if I was going to be fussy I'd like something where I can walk on the boat at any state of tide and take her away !

All advice gratefully received....Mark smile.gif

Many of the moorings in Christchurch are council moorings / or Bournemouth and West Hants Water moorings.

There is a waiting list for most ( all ? ) of these. Especially the ones where you are in water all the time ( Like those around Tuckton tea gardens )

generally you have either marinas (which enable the walk on convienince you indicate) or moorings, which will require the use of a tendder to get out to - although they are mainy all tide access in this area due to the small tidal range in those harbours.

some are avaiable in Poole Harbour at around 600 ps plus the harbour fees, crown estate fees etc bringing the annual costs up to 7-800

marina fees are per metre and (1) few small boat spaces are available in Poole (2) as said they are quite expensive - 3-500 pm/pa ie you won't get a lot of change out of 2000 for a 6m boat.

Hi Mark

Just to give you some idea, I applied for a mooring at Poole over 12mths ago when I first moved here and I am still on the waiting list.

I was advised the average waiting time is approx 2yrs!

I too looked at Christchurch and the best contact is Bournemouth & West Hampshire Water - Tel: 01202 444646 contact name Ian Poate or go to their website Bournemouth & West Water for an information pack.

I have to say I am not bothered at the moment as I don't have a boat big enough, in my opinion, to wet moor but I am looking to go bigger when finds allow.

Good luck in your search

For berthing I hope to go for a dry berth at Parkstone Bay - have put my feelers out with Great White already wink.gif

Thanks for all the replies so far, suppose I ought to join the club for proper now too !
