I'm pretty sure that the European boat caught Plaice record stands at around 11lbs caught off a scandinavian country, although far far larger specimens exist in our own local waters. Back in the sixties, a Commercial Fisherman in Rye Bay, netted a plaice over 17lbs!! A carving of this fine fish is on show down in the Fishermans museum in the Old Town in Hastings, right next to a picture of my grandad knitting shrimp nets, so I've got him to thank for my interest in the sea..............or you lot have him to blame!!!! Zzippy Posted February 24, 2006 Report Share Posted February 24, 2006 If I am not mistaken.I think the plaice was caught last time they did beach restorations, and pumping sand on to the beaches as they are doing at the moment. The record might be broken again this year as the work is going on untill April. BUT QUIET OFTEN FISHED WITH HIM HAD SEVERAL FISH 4LB + FROM THE SAME MARK WHICH IS A GOOD FISH FROM THE BEACH.. HE CAUGHT THE FISH AROUND 11 ISH AT NIGHT AND WEIGHED IT IN 10 HOURS LATER .. SO IT LOST A BIT OF WEIGHT IT WAS A FEMALE AND THE RECKON HER MATE WOULD OF BEEN BIGGER... AND HE'S STILL OUT THERE ... IT WAS CAUGHT ON THE EVENING OF FATHER'S DAY WHEN EVER THAT IS..
