CREZZ
Hello All , We have recently fitted brand new suspension units , hubs etc , to our Bramber trailer , and to my surprise i came home from work today to find two of the studs that the wheels locate on , lying on my drive , with the nuts still screwed on . They have both sheared off halfway along the stud . It can't be from over use as we have not moved the trailer in the last three weeks since we replaced the units . Which is just as well , could have been a bit messy had they gone while actually towing the boat . I have telephoned Towsure in Southampton , who supplied the units , and they are sending replacement studs , but i do not have much confidence in the what they will send me . I just hope the rest of the units are not of the same quality . Does anyone know where i can get a good quality replacement set of studs from ? Sending the units back and buying from elsewhere is not an option as Towsure were the only place i could find that do the suspension units to fit my trailer . Bramber trailers changed hands a few years ago and subsequently they have changed all there range and surprise surprise none of their new gear is compatable with the older stuff . Afishionado
My first reaction is that you have overtightened the wheel nuts by putting some serious welly on when doing them up. Wheel studs are wheel studs. I do not think that there are better ones and cheap ones as the demand for them is so low it would not be worth while to make an extra 2p or so per unit with low grade steel. The studs are usualy the old type Mini pattern. ..................... Ah! I have just had a thought. Years ago it used to be the fashion to have the studs on one side of the trailer reverse threaded so you tightened them up anti clockwise. If one was not aware of this and one was trying to nick someones wheels then you would be tightening the nuts instead of undoing them thus shearing the studs if you were strong enough. Could this have happened? Mad Mike

I have a mate who is notorious for 'just giving it an extra turn' and having no idea how to tie a knot. Por lad always gets upset at the chorus of NO NIGEL! when he picks up a spanner to 'just nip it up' and he can't understand why no one lets him tie up their boat!
