Ebayers Beware

I was informed today that an email link back to an alleged eBay account update site is believed to be a spoof. AOL are blocking this site but other SPs might not.

The email invites you to use the link where you can update your account details. If this is bogus dry.gif , guess what happens next! sad.gif

Trevor mate, these things are common and stopped by any spam stopper system one uses, I use Spamjab. If one thinks a mail purporting to come from ebay is spoof just forward it to < spoof@ebay.com > and they will very quickly tell you if it is real or not.

Mike,

Many of the e-mails won't be stopped by a Spam stopper program. It is quite easy to write a fake e-mail that will not appear as SPAM.

However, it is easy to spot them as well.

In the case of ebay of the URL does not end in ebay.co.uk or ebay.com then it is most probably fake. ( eg. Spoofers will use something like ebay-eur.com or whatever ).

The source address ( ie. The senders address ) is easily spoofed and you can send e-mail which appears to come from anyone.

If you receive an e-mail asking you to update account details then it is 99.99999% sure to be fake. I have yet to see a company request this genuinely.

I don't know about others Paul but as I said I use Spamjab and have found them 100% at picking up not only pure spam but also the very realistic fake ones.

As a long time e-bay buyer and seller,I am sure I have seen them all. My advice, and e-bays too. disregard ANYTHING connected,or perported to be from e-bay,which arrives via your e-mail address.[ other than straightforeward aknowledgements etc. ] If it is anything you need to know.it will be listed on "my messages" on your personal e-bay account page...safe buying/selling... dry.gif jack
