jack
Harry Paye was a real character. He was well known as a Pirate along the south coast of England in the 15th century,at a time when Henry 5th was on the throne. The 100 years war between England and France was being waged, "on the quiet" not having been openly declared. At this time the ships of each country carried out raids on enemy ports and against each others shipping.Harry Paye was well known to his French and Spanish foe's as Arripay.and Poole Harbour was his principal base. His daring exploits made him as dreaded as Drake was to be 200 yrs later. He died in 1419. and is buried in Faversham Church in Kent, where there is a brass figure of him, dressed in the armour of the period.... jack Admin edit n removed
