kaptin kod
I have a Mariner 60 hp outboard charging an 110amp battery, my sounder records voltage and is showing the charge going upto 14.5 volts. is this what is expected or do I have a potential problem on the horizon. TomBettle
That sounds absolutely spot on! If the battery didn't fractionally charge beyond (to approx 14.5V) 12V you would have a problem. The same will happen on cars. Mt L200 has a simple voltmetre and it reads 12V when the engine is off, but turn it on and the charge jumps to 14.5V. Relax, you have a healthy battery. Paul D
Have to agree, this is exactly what should happen when charging a lead/acid battery.
crazy fred
your soon know if its wrong because you will have a black smouldering mass that used to be a battery giving off hydrogen gas and is about to blow your pride and joy into a million pieces
duncan
just one point on here - 12.8v would be healthy battery at rest - ie after at least an hour off charge. 12v would be pretty discharged
