JIMBOB
I did snare a few in the end the first being the biggest at 2 1/2 lbs all super male fish glowing blue They all went back alive beacause my fish box was full of mackrel We found them straight away in strings of 4! along with some fair sized ledge pollock, also had a few wrasse and a stray doggy, all in all a good afternoons fishing. Bait wise I took lug and rag after alun J found lug was fishing better, but all the bream came to rag Tight lines James
Pugwash
Had a few mackeral as well today off Hengistbury . Then moved to a large group of boats off Southbourne where we had no luck at all. With the weather looking a tad uncertain moved back to Hengistbury where we caught several Wrasse including a couple of very decent specimens. alun j.
Isn't iit nteresting how we all get different experiences / catches even though being in fairly close proximity ?? James....... yesterday those bream on the Rough had a huge preference for lug; [big , fat , juicy fresh lug , dug on Fri.]. When we were on the bream, they hit the lug within secs. / mins. [ esp. tipped with squid ]; with rag, the wait was much longer [ and peppered with with wrasse ].
Coddy
Hi all Went out today from Baiter with my youngest son. Went out to the patch where a number of charter boys were. We were late arriving so we missed most of the flood. No sooner had we dropped the pick a number of the boats moved off! Was it something I did or does the boat smell that bad! After getting a few rattles but nothing else I suggested we move off to Southbourne rough and was meet by the charter boat convention. Must be alright here I thought ...................... engines start and some move off and still no bites/fish It was getting a bit rock and rolly so we headed back to Poole for a quick trip around the harbour. Nice to be out and to meet a number of club members at the slip and even on the water. Jack after all my comments during the winter I am now paying the penalty, so from now on Jack is a great fisherman and catches LOADS and LOADS of fish. I just hopw it rubs off my way! a fishless Coddy
Paul D
Went out from Wick on Sunday as well. Looking to repeat the bream catch from Saturday but this time no such success. Had some mackeral on the rough and a couple of wrasse. Counted 24 boats anchored on the rough... ( Gave Hook and Eye directions to the rough, so they could add to the numbers ). Steamed over to the Clan Mcveigh and saw jigabyte on the wreck. Stopped for 1/2 hour but nothing showing, so headed to X-Ray. Dropped hook but conditions were getting more lumpy as the tide ebbed so decided to steam back to the ledge where we were met by some huge standing waves. Steamed over to see how James was doing ( and I think I saw Pugwash there as well along with a "hookless" hook and eye ). Back up the run and retrieval at Wick, where we met up wth Manatee. Now used 22 litres of fuel and travelled 39 NM - Fuel usage was higher today but we were travelling against tide for a fair stretch.

Afishionado
You can still set the anchor with a weak link trip even without the Alderny set up. Just fix the anchor line to the base of the anchor (so it would be upside down if you hung it up in the air) then lay the anchor line along the shaft of the anchor and fix it to the top ring of the anchor with a cable tie or a couple of turns of light line. If the anchor is jammed just pull the line up tight and make it fast at the bow and then motor (gently) forward against the strain untill the cable tie/string snaps and the anchor turns upside down and pulls out of the snag.
