will church
Hello everyone, I'm back but minus Ultimate Chaos. As part of my re-think about boating (ie how much I was spending compared to how little I was using it, coupled with soemthing always going wrong) I have 'rationalised' and bought a Sea Nymph - a displacementy type thing with a 15hp engine (cheap to replace when it goes wrong!) that can't possibly lose any more value unless it sinks! Slow though. To encourage me to use it more I really need somewhere like a boat park to keep it so I can just rock up and launch. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance and sorry for my long silence! Will
TomBettle
Depends on where you are using her Will? Poole? Solent? etc. I think the places in Poole are rather dear compared with joining one of the cruising or fishing clubs in the Solent area that have pounds you can store your boat in. From a dealer to a boater: You will always spend far more on your boat than she actually is worth. It is life and part of boat ownership. None of us need a boat, but we love them that much we do throw money at them. I once worked out that, excluding the cost of purchase of the boat, moorings, and capital costs, just running my boat alone gave me a price per pound of about Edited June 14, 2006 by TomBettle
will church
Thanks Tom - solent would be perfect, I am based at jct 6 of the M25 so really the south coast is my oyster - will go where the boat parks are cheapest. Thanks also for your wise words - I don't expect the principle of chucking money away to change, just hoping the ratio will! Will
markee_b
Many moons ago I was a member of Elmore AC at Lee-on-Solent, they've got a compound right next to a slipway though I don't think it's accessible at all states of tide....maybe worth a try ? TomBettle
Not many wise words from me I am afraid In the Solent there are several locations and I don't know them all but. Try Lymington (I think the yacht club or cruising club by the public slip) Southsea Angling club has a compound Eastney Cruising Club has a compound I am sure Chichester harbour will have someone too..... duncan
Will - don't rule out the Medway. I am not far from you but spent the first 5 years with my boats based there and trailing them around more exotic climes for summer holidays. having said that I caught 3 bass and eel and 1 pout in all that time.......... but it wasn't much better in Poole until I hooked up with this mob
will church
Good shout Duncan - any idea of who to speak to there, or which clubs? Also can you get amongst the mackerel from there - important as when girlfriends/drinking buddies come out they always want to catch mackerel! will church
Sorry Duncan another daft question - could you slip your boat most tides anywhere round there? I had this problem when I used to fish the Blackwater Estuary and found I couldn't always get my boat in or what when I wanted a short trip? It's certainly a lot closer. Seamouse
Southsea are about 200 per year and a 100 introductory charge, if I remember right. Very friendly club though, they always say hello. I can put you in touch with a member if you want. Steep slip, often covered in gravel these days but the club's got a powered winch AND a dumper truck. Waiting list used to be 6-9months but by the frequent invitations to join, I'd guess that's maybe less the case these days? Tom,
