Family Fishing And Super Skate

I sneaked out for a few hours this morning. As fathers day, I thought id do a family thing, and took out my Dad, aswel as my four year old son Lewis.

Launched Gnasher at mudeford with no probs and headed round to towards the bar, getting shallower and shallower, until i manage to get grounded. 3 others follow and that makes 4 boats stuck. I jump out and push her through the gravel- prop still intact though.

Head out towards Xray, mirror sea and fish dimpling the surface everywhere, aswel as bass exploding on the top and feeding on the bait fish, a sight Ive not seen before, about halfway between mudeford and the head.

Anyway, found a few fish on the sounder and I rigged my boy up with some feathers. His rod is a 4 ft ice pike bright orange thing that I got for a fiver from the market.

He drops down and up come the maccy, a great sight watching him bring up his first salt water fish. Once we got enough bait, we head just south of xray.

Because the boat is tiny, with 3 on board (well 2 and a half) we decide to only fish one rod each. Both me and my dad drop down whole maccy baits, with just a few slices in the side and my lad drops down with a small rag bait.

5 mins later, the 4ft orange wand is bent over, after a struggle, up pops a suprise starry. Only small, but im well chuft for him, as the tackle is so light.

2 mins later and hes in again, another decent scrap, and he lands a tub gurnard. Ive never even landed one my self. next drop and a bream of about a pound and a half. All this whilst both mine, and my dads rods remain still.

Just as im thinking my boy is out doing me, i have a couple of vers small pulls on the whole maccy bait. As i hold the rod, it continues to pick at the bait for the next 10 mins. Complaining the doggies are hammering the bait, i decide to hit the next rattle. As soon as i hit it, line pours from the spool as a good fish makes in the flooding tide.

20 mins later on light gear a ray apears 30m down tide on the surface. Even worse the fish wraps in the trace and im now pulling it in backwards. Eventually in the net and a thornback at an ounce over 14lb lays in the net. A new PB for me. After that, a couple more bream to my son and my dad gets his maccy bitten clean in two by a tope.

On way back, i also saw a mad swimmer, in the run at the harbour end where its 17ft deep, and bad currents....Plonker

Anyway

Great fishing, a great pb ray, and even greater company.

Rock on Gnasher

P.S, Sorry badger (im no n**rider, haha), i will have to call u in next couple of days to sort out a stinger bash, not 2nte as im out, hope weymouth went well and plenty of bass were caught.

Nice one mate

What a great way to spend fathers day three generations on the boat, lovely weather and some fish to get the rods bending

After a start like that Lewis will soon become as addicted as Sam and Dan

Please send me the catch reports

If you are a family member do not forget to report lewis's catches its great to start them young

Well done the gnasher crew
