JIMBOB
Headed out Friday evening to have a go for a conger and with the hope of a Better Bass.It was mirror calm and after a few drifts for mackerel we killed the remaining daylight hours with a spot of bass fishing I waded through about 6 before my crew (my boss at work) finally hooked one , all fairly small by recent reported bass but on light tackle great sport with my best 3 all in the 5lb range. Then on to the conger mark, but not a sniff. We sat it out till 3am with not a conger to be seen!. well I had another Bass! this one was better at around 7/8lb but on a 10/0 ,150lb trace and a 30lb class rod not the best sport and let go of the 1/2 pout conger bait at the net. Sunday night saw me fighting my way past the hundreds (yes HUNDREDS!!!!!!) of boats coming in at the slip.Includeing Adam and Gordon waving there huge cod at me proudly, to have another go for the bass but with a change of tack,I was going to target the bass on the conger mark on the drift at night with the hope of a better fish.It worked! well nearly just after dark my mackerel bait was thumped by a good fish and after a spirited scrap, in the torch light appeared what looked like a good fish hit the surface only to be all head ,it was long enough to be a double! and had a huge head but all skin and bone it looked like it had been damaged or stuck in a net or longline That was backed up by 8 more all but one to me I seem to be on form with the bass lately .............so the quest for that elusive monster bass continues James
