Manic Moore
Les answered my wimpering and pleading for a trip out on Saturday. Weather forcast wasn't looking great so we posponed a 6.00am start until 9.30 just to get a better feel how the weather was going to set in (and I was out on the town last night and only had about 3 hours sleep ) and we crept over the bar just before 10.00am. Well descretion was the better part of valour and we decided not to venture out too far and once we had a few joeys from Les's secret Joey mark we drifted free line macy accross the ledge along with half a dozen assorted boats. We did see a member but did not remember or recognise (sorry). Anyway while the tide was running hard and was making headway against the force 5 I had the first Bass over the side, a nice 6lb fish that Les is probably cooking on the barby right now. Next drift saw a better fish which took the scales to 9lb 8oz and went back to fight another day. I was feeling really guilty now, not only did I have two fish on board but I had also eaten all Les's sandwichs and drank half his water because I hadn't been organised. Thanks for a great day out Les, I enjoyed the day on Manatee PS sorry to those rowers I carved up in the harbour PS again Dam, I left my lucky hat at home Edited July 15, 2006 by Manic Moore
Paul D
You can burn that hat please - I am beginning to think the hat has cursed me since I crushed it in the back of the car..... Thinking about it I haven't caught a fish since then Nice fish Gordon, more than me and Paul J got on the ledge. However, I have a "secret joey" mark as well which was producing well for myself and PJ - shame they seemed to have a bass repellant coating. Spent the day helping Paul J on MarineBoy which has been transformed a tad ( will leave PJ to report )......
Gruffy
Well done boys, nice fish Gordon. You did well to catch today, it seems your decision to fish the Ledge was a good one. I had a run out to the chalk today to try fishing with the livelies, had a couple of mates down from Wales for the weekend. I had my first bass on a live macky yesterday in very shallow water, an 8lb fish which was a nice way to start....it was duly weighed, measured and a scale sample taken before being released. Today we bumped our way through the easterly from Poole and took a few mackerel from the water just west of the point, then had about a dozen drifts through the race without having a sniff. Must be doing it wrong.... this was the first time I've ventured to this place specifically to fish with livebaits, it was more of a recce than anything which was just as well I guess. We float fished the baits at about 20 foot depth, and the third bait was freelined....same result for all. We did manage to find a few bass tucked in one of the gaps between the chalk, all under 3lb but still good fun on plugs and spinning gear. The tide was topping when we arrived so we fished the last hour of the flood and a couple of hours back, then did a bit more exploring around the area for future reference. The run home was a little more comfy than the run out, but the water was very coloured with the easterly so we called it quits before low water.
