Card Reader

Reg,

You can't do it with the Navionics charts straight from a card reader.

Navionics have recently brought out some new software called NavPlanner to allow you to read the charts on your PC (which includes their card reader), but the reviews of this software have been very mixed. Price is around

Reg,

I'm a little confused. rolleyes.gif What do you mean by "I will give it another try"?

Have you already got the NavPlanner software on your PC?

Again, you cannot see Navionics charts on your PC unless you have the NavPlanner software installed.

If you have the Navplanner software and still can't see the charts, that's another story.

cheers

No Bob I do not have the navplanner program .but as far as I understand it I can or supposed to be able to put the chart into the card reader and fetch it up on the screen. So long as I don't try to load the chart onto the hard drive it should work ok. according to the blurb I got with it if you try and download onto your pc it messes the card up. blink.gif unless its the card reader. are they all the same as I don't have the one navionics are advertising ??

The Navonics card reader appears to have a "dongle" built into it which allows the charts to be accessed. It annoys me that these companies can sell you a chart and then add so many restrictions to how you can use it. It is a simple coding issue to allow usage of charts within different viewing platforms, but they alway seem to do it an outdated and crazy manner.

"Dont buy Navplanner" all sorts of defects and errors.

I'm working on the card reader issue, i'll keep you updated.

Reg,

As Simon says, you will not be able to view the Navionics charts without using their card reader.

Simon, I will be really interested in what you come up with.

At the moment I connect my plotter to a battery at home so I can view the chart on the plotter in the comfort of home. and put in waypoints and marks.

I too will be interested in your 'results' Simon - please keep me up to date with progress!

I currently use the double battery / cabling system and work from my old garmin charts for the odd bit of planning but would prefer to use the Navionics chart actually on the PC.

I have a backup of the chart file as I understand that if for any reason I corrupt the file on the issued card I can copy it back onto the MMC card and it will (may) work but as said there is a link between the chart software adn the chip it's initially programmed too to prevent copying.
