Shropfisher
I intend to get myself a colour Plotter before moving south but I see there are several differant types of cartography, C-Map, Blue Chart etc, without looking in great detail my first thought was the Garmin Blue chart looked the better, but I;ve not been able to see both running at the same time yet, So my question is : What is the prefered chart system ? TomBettle
I believe the Blue Chart system is exclusively for Garmin plotters and will not interchange with any other brand. I am sure someone else will put me right if that is wrong. I am not 100% familiar with Blue Chart, but actively use both C-Map NT + and Navionics Gold. Both are excellent, clear and intuitive, but I reckon that Navionics Gold just has the edge in it's cartography. C-Map and Navionicas charts are more widely used by manufacturers and so you may find that if you ever changed again in the future, your existing (new) card would transfer into your next plotter. great white
Its really hard to answer I chose the plotter that I liked and then decided on which chart I had the lowrance colour plotter and Navionics gold chart and was happy with both. in fact I now wish that I had not sold them with the old boat, as I will probably pick them again for the new one. The show is a good place to shop as many stands will have running units so you can compare plotter features and chartography within 1 tent Charlie
Shropfisher
Thanks Guysm planning on going to opening day of the show, andtaking piggy bank with me, Blue chart is exclusive to Garmin, it appeara each company has their own, and don't want to end up with a BetaMax version, Really I am looking for the one that gives most detail on the largest screen I can afford. Coddy
Have a look at the C-Map web site They now have the MAX NT+ range which showes the buoys flashing lights on the map!! I have also the C-Map reader so I can look at the maps that go into the plotter and add marks or waypoints and then uploadthem, via a users card, to the plotter. If you want to have a look at my set up when you are down give me a call, might even manage a sherbert or two! Coddy
Bob F
I went for Navionics Gold because of the better contouring. But the new C-MAP MAX NT+ would be worth a look at. It wasn't out when I was looking before. BF
