Lymington Today

Took a trip out of Lymington today with Soleman as figured we would get some shelter from the southerlies.

Was nice and calm going out adn settled in near a wreck mark that Alun J gave us.

Nothing showing so headed to a mark which I have always been convinced contained fish - it just looks so "fishy" with rough ground and boiling . swirling water.

As we couldnt find any mackeral, used a stormie and hooked up with a 4lb 9oz bass on my new Solid-C rod - nice way to christen it and I have to say it is a superb rod to fight a bass on ( The 8 ft model ).

The tide was HUGE today, we drifted at 5 knots and Neo managed a new "speed record", hitting 26.7 knots when steaming to the mark !

Nothing much else caught, so went back to see how Alun was doing and then back to Lymo. The water was at the top of the wall by the slipway - big old tides.

I got the rod from the guy who has a stall at Lymington market on Saturdays ( he does a good business from recommendations on here as well ! ).

I am considering getting one from him as the next competition prize.

Well done Paul !!....... my how your fingers have grown !!

Just a bit green with envy....but well done on your perseverence;

I took one look at that murky water pouring up the Solent and thought that lures wouldn't work as well as juicy bait slices.

We had a good lie on the wreck on the flood........but the steady stream of bites was only pout [ some reasonable, semi-jumbos!], then doggies.

Slack water lasted about 15 mins......... then it started coming down the Solent faster and faster...... pound and a half of lead to hit hit bottom, even with micro braid. Bites stopped as we were now on the wrong side.

Re-anchoring was required...... but inexperience in that sort of tide put us too close with too little warp out and we dragged into the lump. A few bites but too much flow . Attempts to retrieve anchor ended with warp cutting on the wreckage.

Next time I try this spot, it will have to be neaps.

Nevertheless, it was a lovely warm day....... and that area over near the Island is sheltered from the stong S. winds that were whipping past us and knocking the sailing right over; I hope Simon enjoyed his trip out and the doggie fillets help make peace with Lynne !! ??

Off to Falmouth next weekend....... if weather allows.

Alun.

Thats good news. I bought a pair of the shorter Solid C's from him last year following recommendations from this board.

The plastic screw on the reel seat of one of the rods cracked - I took it back to him and the following week he had a new replacement for me.

An 8 foot version could serve me better - should be able to cast a bit further if needed.

How much are they going for?
