Paul D
Fished on Monday out of Wick with Gordon H on Fugazi. We tried to emulate Paul J's achievements from the Sunday but to no avail. Had Whiting, Pout and Doggies. It was great to fish on Fugazi and the bacon and eggs were great. Tuesday I fished out of Lymington, navigated our way through the early morning fog to a mark that Gordon had given me. Not a bite after 2 hours and still misty but seemed to be clearing so we decided to go to the "car park". Got around the corner and it was beautiful and sunny. Had a few whiting and dogs and my fishing partner hooked into something big but lost it as he had the clutch set wrong. Today ( Wed ), I needed to find crew so a quick call and Mark Bessant is persuaded fishing is better than work. 11 AM ish and we are launching from a beautiful sunny Lymington. Straight for the Needles for another go at the cod. Mark hooked into a hard fighting fish that turned out to be a conger doing a cod impression. Alun J and Paul F ( Sinbad ) were fishing nearby and I mentioned that they would get whiting around 2 hours before the slack and to clockwork they did. We however only caught the one ( to Mark ). I managed to lose what I can only presume was an eel to my 40 lb leader ( bitten through ), so upped my leaders to 100lb mono. Alun J and Paul headed back but we decided to fish the start of the flood and suddenly I am into a good fish. Mark calls "conger" but I was pleased to see he was wrong as it surfaced. "Wheres the net Mark" - err - stuck around the aux bracket !! Net is freed and fish hauled into the boat and a new boat record for Neo is achieved ( Weighed 21 lb on Marks scaled and 20lb 8oz on mine ) so "mission accomplished" from my 3 days of fishing

alun j.
Well Done Paul, Reward for persistance.......... and willingness to stay on, in the shipping lanes , into the dark! We whizzed back at 23 kts and just made it to the slip in the very last of the light. Met Lady Jane at Lymo slip who fared not as well as us but similar to many of the charters who seem to be struggling for anything other than dogs or conger. Conger put in the most muscular appearance today, with three arm-tuggers to me, best estimated around 30. Dogfish not as incessant as last Sun., but still plenty! At last............ a show of whiting...... about 7 in the last hour; with a couple of 2 lbers. I think they are late this year and may start to be more widespread soon; this is based on their relative thinness. Although in good condition, they look now like early season [oct./nov.] fish, before they fatten up to spawn. No sign of roe in the 2 lber I've just enjoyed for supper........ I'll check the others when I fillet them in a mo. Great to have been out........ the scenery in the sunshine was stunning!...esp. at sunrise , with 'waterfalls ' of fog falling off the white, green-topped cliffs into Freshwater Bay. Did you get that on camera Paul ?? Thanks for the company and crewing skills........ do it again soon. Alun.

Member Removed
Wonderful Christmas bonus, COD for christmas dinner? Well worth having the week off! Got to go out and find its big brother now though. By the way, just to remind you... that still only counts as one. Running score is Westray 4 Neo 1. Paul D
Large baits Duncan on a trace which you would be proud of ( not one of these flimsy "christchurch boys ones" ) I was fishing 5 or 6 squid on a two hook pennel on the basis of big baits for big fish. Manic Moore
Just goes to show what precision anchoring will do!!
Bob F
Yeh, I've seen Paul's precision anchoring technique. Lick one finger, place into air, look around expectantly, and chant "this'll do." Nice one Paul. That's what you call a result. BF
Paul J
Lick one finger, place into air, look around expectantly, and chant "this'll do." Wish i had a finger like that, i'll try the index next time PJ
