Hi All, Have any of you looked into importing a used boat from another EU country and if so how does the VAT situation work ? Does it work out alot cheaper than buying here ? Cheers Jas

basic premise is that if it's VAT paid in the other country (at whatever rate) then it's good to go in the EU................

however........evidence of VAT paid differs across the EU so detailsin that area will be country specific. UK is actually the daftest as you can't prove VAT paid status because even if it's invoiced it could have been reclaimed!

France is good as their vessel registration scheme (compulosry) will include TVA payment.

Hi Duncan, Does that mean that if i purchase a used boat in France, i don't have any legal duty to pay Vat because this would have been paid for already and as far as i am aware import duty is not payable at all on top of the asking price ?

Cheers Jas

There was a chap on WSF web site that bought a new Quicksilver off a French dealer, paid the French duty and the dealer met him at Calais with the boat on it's trailer and the guy just drove it back via the ferry.

I guess a question on WSF would gain the nessesary info.
