pegleg Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 Hi All, Have any of you looked into importing a used boat from another EU country and if so how does the VAT situation work ? Does it work out alot cheaper than buying here ? Cheers Jas Quote
duncan Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 basic premise is that if it's VAT paid in the other country (at whatever rate) then it's good to go in the EU................ however........evidence of VAT paid differs across the EU so detailsin that area will be country specific. UK is actually the daftest as you can't prove VAT paid status because even if it's invoiced it could have been reclaimed! France is good as their vessel registration scheme (compulosry) will include TVA payment. Quote
pegleg Posted February 9, 2007 Author Report Posted February 9, 2007 Hi Duncan, Does that mean that if i purchase a used boat in France, i don't have any legal duty to pay Vat because this would have been paid for already and as far as i am aware import duty is not payable at all on top of the asking price ? Cheers Jas Quote
Newboy Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 Just make sure you have all the paperwork to proof ownerhip as well as evidence of vat been paid. Quote
duncan Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 yes - providing it was french registered to an individual the paper work should be about a solid as you can get around boats! Quote
Afishionado Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 There was a chap on WSF web site that bought a new Quicksilver off a French dealer, paid the French duty and the dealer met him at Calais with the boat on it's trailer and the guy just drove it back via the ferry. I guess a question on WSF would gain the nessesary info. Mad Mike Quote
pegleg Posted February 10, 2007 Author Report Posted February 10, 2007 Cheers guy's. It's just another option available if i can't find what i want at a good price in UK. Jas Quote
Bob F Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 Jas If you've got to tow the boat any distance, let me know and I might be able to save you a few quid. BF Quote
