Gruffy
I have a tired old Sundridge two piece floatation suit that could do with a coating of something to make it a little more waterproof than it currently is.....can anyone suggest a good product I can use to achieve this? Cheers, Al
Coddy
Why not try the stuff they use on wax coats or even tents? Coddy
Swainiac
Al, most proprietory waterproofing agents are pretty good on smoth surfaces with little abrasion, but clothing requires, generally, waterproofing designed for clothing. I still havent had a definitive answer to another question from a m8 of mine from Orvis, so I will badger him today for an answer on that, and ask him about proprietory waterproofing agents from orvis.......I also get 50% discount through him on all cash purchases Will PM you later. plaicemat
For re-waterproofing our mountain gear, we use Nikwax TX-Direct wash in. If the article is a bit festy, wash first with Nikwax Loft Tec Wash (never tried ordinary detergent - may work just as well), ensure all detergent is out of the garment and machine and then put in again with the wash-in and select a 40 degree synthetic cycle. Hang out to dry and jobs done. We find it lasts a couple of years. It's about Edited February 21, 2007 by plaicemat
Newboy
Go into millets and they have waterproofing spray, just make sure you do it in a well ventelated area . Or if you have any spare from proofing carpet, Scotchguard works just as well. Both will need a respray after half a dozen uses around the knee area. plaicemat
From several years of experimentation, spray on is nowhere near as satisfactory on exterior clothing as wash in. It's o/k for things like tents, etc., but the wash in is far superior, especially with breathable fabrics; the spray covers and blocks the membrane. Terry. Gruffy
Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll look for the wash in stuff - Terry, the Nikwax sounds like the best bet so far, I assume I can get it from an outdoor supplies type of shop? plaicemat
Certainly can, or try on line, bearing in mind the additional postage. Terry.
