Al, most proprietory waterproofing agents are pretty good on smoth surfaces with little abrasion, but clothing requires, generally, waterproofing designed for clothing. I still havent had a definitive answer to another question from a m8 of mine from Orvis, so I will badger him today for an answer on that, and ask him about proprietory waterproofing agents from orvis.......I also get 50% discount through him on all cash purchases wink.gif

For re-waterproofing our mountain gear, we use Nikwax TX-Direct wash in. If the article is a bit festy, wash first with Nikwax Loft Tec Wash (never tried ordinary detergent - may work just as well), ensure all detergent is out of the garment and machine and then put in again with the wash-in and select a 40 degree synthetic cycle. Hang out to dry and jobs done. We find it lasts a couple of years. It's about

From several years of experimentation, spray on is nowhere near as satisfactory on exterior clothing as wash in. It's o/k for things like tents, etc., but the wash in is far superior, especially with breathable fabrics; the spray covers and blocks the membrane.
