Hi Guys,

Just thought I would share my recent experience in dealing with Silva. Purchased a Lowrance 3500 for my Orkney 520 last October. I have only had the chance to use it twice since then but could not get the ground speed to show on the unit. The closing speed shows OK but despite following the booklet to the letter, I could not get the ground speed to stop showing 2 flashing 00's. I contacted Lowrance and the dealer and both suggetsted that I needed to purchase suitable equipment to download an update, despite the unit being brand new and this function never having worked. However, a quick call to the distributors and they offered to do the download for me. I posted the unit on Monday and received it back on Wednesday! Not bad eh! from one end of the country to the other.

Good to see that service is still alive and kicking (sometimes)

Excuse me for stating the obvious, but the sale of good act actually requires the shop who are selling a product does what it supposed to do, i.e., for a ff or gps/plotter, if speed is part of the functions then it should work from day one and not needing any update by yourself unless it is printed/stated on the box "user update required"

Nevertheless a good response from the distributor but far from satisfactary from Lowrance or the shop. mad.gif

Hi Newboy,

You are absolutely correct and that is exactly what I pointed out to them, but the reply (from Lowrance) was that just because a unit is new that does not mean it will not need any updates. I replied saying that I found this difficult to believe as surely a function as simple as speed should be working on a basic GPS let alone a

I had the same trouble last year with the 350c. I contacted the place I bought it from and they did not want to know. But on phoning the guy from silva in sterling he sent me the update next day. Can't fault Silva. biggrin.gif
