plaicemat
Does anyone know the proper name for those 'witches hat' things that route cables from the engine through a waterproof grommet? I need to get one and can't find it anywhere on the internet. The right name would probably solve this. Terry

Harry S
Terry, Let me know how you get on - I need to replace one on my 165 too! Any tips gratefully received. Are you having your engine serviced by the man in Abingdon this year? Harry
Swainiac
Witches Hat.........slightly tighter than a Wizards Sleeve, well it was when I went to school. Rich
Newboy
They are quite easy to fit, just take off all the bits from the ob and thread thru then reconnect, just don't drop any bolt or nut down the drain like I did .....
endeavour boats
Rather than try and fit the 30+mm nut through the steering grommet. Depending on the boat, it might be easier to disconnect the cable from the helm and feed it through the grommet from the engine end. I put the steering cable through its own one and feed the rest through a second. Steve
diverdave
I got fed up with changing mine they don't last 5 minutes and like Newboy says you have to disconnect everything that passes through them. So I came up with this simple solution.
plaicemat
My word, thanks for all the input, chaps. Harry, yes I am unless I decide on a weekend in Poole; service Saturday, fish Sunday. Rich, don't make me invoke the Dark Forces; scoff at your peril! For the others, I'm not actually replacing the existing one, I'm fitting another one to accommodate the inlet pipe and cable from the exterior bilge pump to the bait tank. But I will remember the advice when I do have to. Terry.

charlieannear
Quay West call them 'motorwell grommets' No wonder they are difficult to find- everyone calls them something different!
