duncan
great fishing and excellent pictures guys - impressed with the pick it up and hold it brigade my 46 was happy in the boat but went loopy when we tried to pick it up! all these bite offs - what's the trace doing in their mouth any way - although I accept that smallish circles and large baits don't mix that well for these guys unless you are fishing fresh mackerel when the tail root gives a great hold and hooking potential or a couple of calamari hung on the bend. clearly just a question of when, who and how big for the conger record this year if we get any good weather! plaicemat
Actually, Duncan, There was only one bite off as I remember, the rest were more rub offs; we could feel the line scraping along lumps of metal. The wreck we were fishing, although large, had a very widely dispersed amount of debris spread over quite a large area, it was hard to miss. I think this is probably what attracted the obviously large concentration of eels. Whatever, it's logged for future attention! As regards the handling, I was very wary until shown how to handle the slimey b@st@rds, now I'm more confident. Once lifted, they seem to settle right down. Terry. duncan
cheers Terry - yep rub offs are the real danger of fishing in amongst the wreckage - where the bigger eels seems to live! can't always lure them out with a scent trail.........
