Coddy
Managed to get Sammy out on Saturday for the first time since before Christmas! Launched from Poole but arrived too early, as there was insufficient water on the slip, but by the time we had rigged up the rods etc. we had sufficient water to launch. On the way through the inner harbour we were hailed by a charter skipper who asked if we could help. It seemed that the diesel pump spring had failed and he was getting no fuel to the engine. All he needed was a tow to his pontoon mooring. This we managed to do with a bit more luck than judgement due to the wind but I was impressed how easily the 165 pulled and pushed a heavy charter boat. The guy offered payment which we declined as I said I might need him one day! We then motored off using the last few days of no speed limit in the harbour. We headed East and stopped on Poole patch but seemed we were in doggie land, heaviest of 1.75lb, interestingly, there seemed a large number of whelks attaching themselves to Bill's line not the hook but the line itself, don't know what that means if anything. The wind started to increase and we rocked about a bit but eventually gave up and headed inshore for a bit of shelter. Whilst it was more comfortable no fish wanted to play so we thought we would try the swash for plaice. AWOL came up to see how we were doing but nothing was playing for us. Went in the harbour to give a last try for flounder for the last hour but nothing showed. Recovered the boat and went home. Good to get out at last but look forward to more spring-like weather.
