Member Removed
After a brief half day around poole patch a couple of weeks ago we managed to get a full day out. Headed out to christchurch ledge and found anothoer 4-5 boats there, I caught my first decent fish ever - a 2.5lb bream. We caught nothing for about 2 hrs and then headed to poole patch and spent another unsuccessful few hours before heading home. Almost lost my anchor twice - need to set a trip, also need to look at bait/set up etc to improve. Good day out, could have been a bit warmer Thanks for advice from all here cheers Malc
Gnasher
well done matey. Was it on the numbers i gave you or did you try another mark? They can be pretty hit and miss, but with some scent in the water, they are normally obliging. a 2.5lb fish is a beauty . Good angling! You were a lucky chappy attempting the ledge without having the anchor tripped and not losing it !
dapper1965
Nice bream Malc. from another newcomer. Hope to try the ledge soon if this wind dies down a bit. Darren.
Paul J
Nice one Malc, The ledge is littered with anchors, one's got mine name on it so please do heed Dans advice and get it tripped PJ
Rob
I have one out there too. If you find it it is anchor shaped and has a bit of chain attached!!! Perhaps we should have some sort of remberance service out there for anchors lost on the ledge. I am going to buy the replacement tomorrow - and trip it! Rob I had the thought of getting a magnet anchor - hang magnet under boat a couple of feet down and with the amount of metal work on the legde - bingo, hold in any tide! (patent pending)
Mike Fox
You probably fouled your anchor on a previously lost anchor, that was tangled in an anchor snagged long ago, on.... Any divers in the club fancy a session on the end of the ledge? 5,000 anchors at
Member Removed
Gnasher - I used your mark The outboard lifted out of the water trying to get the anchor out, a trip boat was about 20yards away - so retrieval became a matter of pride! Fortunately had a mate with me who was prepared to lose his fingers. The swell really picks up on the ledge which makes life interesting. Will be tripping next time - also nearly lost it on the patches! Live and learn. It was a great fish for the first time. Been reading up on rigs etc for next time cheers Malc
