Newboy
I need to import a dog into the UK from Hong Kong, rule for export is simple here, just need to make an appointment for blood test to proof dog is clean then export is allowed. What is the quarantine law in the UK (bearing in mind Hong Kong is not part of the pet passport scheme)? I know one way is do it 6 months in advance so all necessary test and jabs are done, other way is to import the dog and have it put in quarantine for 6 months. But what I need to know is, do I need to book the dog in advance or can I just stick it in a plane and have it quarantine on arrival? Thanks in advance. Afishionado
Kam you need to have all quarantine proceedures fixed in advance of import. The animal will be removed from the plane by the airports Animal Welfare people and moved directly to their quarantine quaters. You may visit the animal there but its removal to it's permanent quarantine quarters has to be done by the regestered quarantine kennels. It is an expensive process and very tightly controled. Newboy
Sent off for some quotes and just hope expensive isn't too expensive , it's got to be cheaper than cobbs.......
plaicemat
it's got to be cheaper than cobbs....... Ah, yes but, unless it's a very good swimmer, you can't go fishing on it. Try to find quarantine kennels locally to yourself; this makes visiting much easier. Yellow pages should help. I know 2 or 3 here that I have used in the past for clients but that's a long'ish way from you. Terry.
Afishionado
Oh I have just remembered. The crate and facilities for the animal in transit MUST comply with the UK regulations, not the regulations (if any) at the point of departure. The length, hight, width, and air circulation of the crate have to meet the requirements. So too must access to water and food during the flight be arranged. I would Google 'importing a dog into the UK and follow the leads you get from that. Mad Mike
plaicemat
If you use a good quarantine kennels, they can even organise the whole package for you. Terry.
