Gnasher
Just making my new bigger and better livebait well but want to know what way should the water be going in the tank? Clockwise or anti-clockwise? I know its been covered a few times but i can't find the old thread. Ta Dan

Gnasher
thanks mate. I have just finished and tested it and although its a square base (fits positionally into the boat perfect), the water circulates lovely . Just a small drainage tap to be added to the bottom of the tank now and i think i'm pretty much there ! Pic... Gnasher
the hose inside is plugged at bottom so the tiny holes allows the water to come out at high pressure! The last baitwell killed everything that went in it so hopefully this one works. I plan to just hang the pump over on the drift and drop it inside when motoring back up the tide. Any other thoughts on how to improve it? or is it ok as it is?
Paul J
I hate to say it but i think you'll need a round one PJ
Gnasher
shusssshhhhhhhh PJ. lol. I will try it and see. I have a round tank in the garage so if this fails i can demolish it and try again I went with a square shape as it fits far better in the boat. TomBettle
I hate to say it but i think you'll need a round one PJ Round will be far more suitable. The water may circulate well, but the fish need to be able to swim comfortably and here they will end up bunched in a corner. These guys are great. http://www.powellmailorder.co.uk They supply the good old blue barrell, but also more aesthetically pleasing white ones and other coloured ones. I think page 353 in the catalogue is a good example.
Deep Sea Dean
You will find water will slop around a lot more n a square tank. The built in baitwells in maverick were rectangular and water went everywhere and gave the fish a right battering to boot.

Paul J
Looks good rob, as couple of questions though: Does it drain quick enough? Is draining from the bottom important enough to warrant putting an obstacle in the fishes path? PJ
Gnasher
Rob, a classy tank and i love the idea of draining from the bottom. It makes loads of sense. I think the whole lot looks brilliant. Q. How imporant is it to pump the water clockwise as you are spraying from the top.

Rob
I will advised on reverse drainage later and JoJo is hitched to the car and we are off any minute. Paul, I know what you mean re. obstacle, so Mk3 might hav the drain on the outside at the bottom. Just didn't want to cut a hole in the bottom of my new tank withnout tryiong it first! Though the fish didn't mind the last one with a filler tube inside like Gnasher's. We'll see - if I can get some maccy round Poole! alun j.
Hi Gordon, Thanks again for the trip yesterday......shame the wind blew up so much. Your bait tank is 'ace'; being nice and big. I'm not sure a lid would be much help; the 'jumpers' lept out almost as soon as put in, if had a lid, it would have been off when popping them in, when most jumped out! An alternative suggestion..........could you put something.....a piece of mesh?? or something that would stop any escapees sliding into that bilge well?? Alun. PS mackerel for dinner were excellent
Paul D
Gordon, Good tips there. I used to have a lid on my tank but have now lost two overboard. So another tip is to secure lid to the tank
