Friday Morning......

A gentle northerly at 6 am soon became a fresh force 4 on the mark before 7.

Drifting was being pushed against the tide and a wet trip back up the mark !!

Nevertheless a few bass showed up and gave a good account as they were in tip top condition. The best went 7 lb 9 and the next 6 lb 8. Number three was a bit smaller and slipped back untouched! Plenty of mackerel for bait [ the biggest fish had two part digested inside it].

Back home for lunch ........passing Dawn Raider with James on his way out.... so he does get out after all!!

Well done, Alun - I bet your Brother was impressed...

I too was 'enjoying' the force 3-4 out west, although when the sun came out later, the breeze died away. I gave peveril a few drifts with livebait, and along dancing ledge in close, but this time no Mr Bass, just Mrs Diddly squat.

The plan was to fish some banks out west, but I got pre-occupied with catching a few baits and employing them staight away under a float, that the morning soon passed. By the time I got anchored on the bank, the tide strength needed 1-1.5lb of lead, and I felt distinctly under gunned. A fruitless few hours was spent in the sunshine - but the mackerel kept showing in small numbers.

A quiet day, with few boats about- (well, out west, although the swash channel was full of seadoos driven by the B'ham navy!! - good luck anyone venturing out this weekend!!)

Still was good to be out to check a few new marks for the comp, and a mirror flat sea to end with, made me wish I was out tonight... especially as I saw Gordon (Enticer) on the back road heading to Christchurch.

Regards

Paul.

Friday afternoon / night was fantastic smile.gif ( although we didn't find the larger bass. )

Launched for Christchurch at Low Water around 2 PM, no problem as the tides were so small.

Stopped to have a crack at the mullet but they werent having none of our spinners.

Saw Marineboy heading back in to collect Des and then back out after the bass. ( I am sure I saw a fly rod in use ).

We opted for Xray, so feathered up some bait ( well at least my crew Steve did ! ) and then over to Xray. After the usual bout of dogfish I had something bigger. A dogged fight with the ray ( which failed to go uptide, so I knew it had to be a small eyed ph34r.gif ) . 8lb 2 oz Small Eyed Ray then landed.

Then Steve has a smaller one and I follow this up within the next 5 minutes with a bigger one which went 8lb 8oz.

Then I caught another Small Eyed which was fighting as if it were a bass ( most impressive ).

Fishing then quietened off, so we watched the trawer go past mad.gif and then headed for the ledge.

Tried drifting with some live joeys but nothing showing, so off to fish a mark next to Enticer after the Eels. Saw another Raider out there who I thought was James ( but turned out it wasn't ). We had bells and lights to clip to our fishing rods which caused Gordon to phone up and aks if Morris Dancers were onboard biggrin.gif

Steve had the best of the fishing at this mark with a reasonable Conger and a 3lb Bass while I stuck to clearing the area of dogfish. Then off to have a go at the sole ( might as well not have bothered though ).

Back up the run at 3-30 AM through the morning mist and back home at 5 AM.

Xray saved the day really, but first time I have night fished the ledge. Must give it another go sometime.

Yes friday was looking great. (Why is it that the fish don't realise what an ideal evening it was. Or did they!)

Battery trouble first off so by the time we got out to Hengesbury the light was fading but decided to trawl and scratched out a dozen Macy for bait. We then settled down on the ledge. Other than the morris dancers on Neo it proved very quiet with me catching a conger about 15lb. We then decided to fish the last of the ebb on another mark. Loads of doggies. Then at 4am we tried one more mark where Will picked up a 30ish and I dropped another.

The night couldn't have been better (well if the fishing had been better it could have!) flat calm, moon, fire work display. We cruised back into Mudeford about 7.30am and then cat napped for the rest of the day on the settee tongue.gif

Hi Alun

yep I do still wet a line biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif when you saw me in the run that was my second trip out in 24hours! ph34r.gif

Fished Thursday night, we had a good mixed catch with one fish a bit special a 19lb 2oz undulate ray on a carp rod and a 2/0 hook not to me though, it was angled by mark my crew, It battled like a demon and was the biggest ray and I think specimen fish Ive had on the Raider!, she went back to get even bigger and threaten that british record. I have some good pics on my camera and will load them up soon.

Tight lines

James
